Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

Dr. Macias is board-certified by the American Board Of Plastic Surgery

In many states, including California, any licensed physician is legally allowed to perform cosmetic procedures without being board-certified in plastic surgery.

There are 24 boards within the “gold standard” American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Of these 24, there is only one which certifies plastic surgeons, the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Being a “board-certified” cosmetic surgeon does not necessarily mean the physician is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, as he or she can be certified by any of the other 23 specialties or another board.

A physician must meet the following rigid requirements to be ABPS board certified:

  • Graduate from an accredited medical school
  • Complete a combination of at least five years of general, ENT, or Urology surgery and 3 years of plastic surgery residency training or 6 years of plastic surgery training
  • Pass comprehensive written and oral exams, including case log examinations to ensure the plastic surgeon is safe

Choose an ABPS board-certified plastic surgeon you can trust.

There are many “cosmetic surgeons” in Hermosa Beach and the surrounding areas who state that they are board certified, but only the American Board of Plastic Surgery oversees the training of plastic surgeons. Only ABPS board-certified plastic surgeons can become members of both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

Dr. Macias advises patients to do their homework before choosing a Redondo Beach cosmetic surgeon to ensure that they are board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). You can verify that Dr. Luis Macias is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery by calling the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) at (866) 275-2267 or visiting ABMS online.

Start your journey with trusted, personalized care.
