The delicate skin around the eyes is one of the first areas to show the telltale signs of aging. When this occurs, eyelid surgery in Santa Monica is a simple procedure that can refresh your expression and take years off your appearance.

What is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a common procedure where excess skin and fat pads are removed from either the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both. The procedure is quick and painless. Most importantly, eyelid surgery will allow you to look how you feel – fresh, awake and confident!

What Can Eyelid Surgery Do For You?

Eyelid surgery is designed to correct:

  • Under eye bags
  • Excess skin
  • Eyelid wrinkles
  • Drooping eyelids

Blepharoplasty Procedure

Blepharoplasty is a surgery that can be done under local or general anesthesia, depending on your needs. In either case, you won’t feel any pain or discomfort during the operation. To perform the procedure, Dr. Macias will rejuvenate the upper and/or lower eyelids:

  • Upper eyelid surgery. Through an incision hidden within the natural creases of the upper eyelid, Dr. Macias will remove fatty deposits, tighten lax muscles and trim away excess skin.
  • Lower eyelid surgery. Through an incision along the lower lash line, Dr. Macias can remove excess skin and fat. If you don’t have any excess skin, the incision may be hidden inside the lower eyelid. Through that opening, Dr. Macias can only remove fatty deposits under the eyes.

Once Dr. Macias has rejuvenated your eyelids, he will close the incisions with sutures. You will be able to return home immediately after surgery to begin the healing process.

Recovery After Blepharoplasty

After your Blepharoplasty in Marina del Rey, your incisions may be red and irritated and you will likely notice swelling and bruising in the area. All of these effects will subside as you heal. For most of our Marina del Rey patients, these issues disappear within one to two weeks.

Dr. Macias will remove your sutures five days after the procedure. You will be able to return to work and your normal daily activities the next day, although you should refrain from exercise for two weeks.

Why Choose Dr. Macias?

Dr. Luis Macias is an internationally renowned, highly trained, double board-certified plastic surgeon located in Marina del Rey. He understands how important natural cosmetic results are to his patients – especially on the face. As such, he is careful to avoid over-correcting when performing eyelid lifts. He won’t erase all signs of the aging process, but he will smooth away heavy bags, correct prominent sagging, and ensure that you’re aging with grace.

When Will I See Results After Eyelid Surgery?

Typically, the area around your eyes will be somewhat bruised and swollen for one to three weeks after undergoing eyelid surgery. Even after these symptoms have subsided, it may still take several more weeks to see the final results of the procedure. Usually, patients can see the complete effects of the surgery after two or three months.
