The Procedure

Dr. Macias may perform your Marina del Rey septoplasty under general anesthesia or IV sedation, depending on your needs and the extent of your surgery. To begin the procedure, he will create an incision completely hidden within the nose or along the strip of tissue that divides your nostrils.

Through that opening, he will gently lift away the membrane covering the septum and reposition and straighten the crooked structure. He will then close the incisions carefully and place splints inside the nose to support the healing process.

Recovery

You will be free to return home immediately after your procedure. You can expect your nose to be swollen and painful during the initial healing process. Elevating your head at all times may minimize these effects.

For the first few days, you will be advised to avoid blowing your nose and disrupting the area in any way. In addition, you will need to avoid strenuous activity and lifting heavy objects for several weeks to ensure an optimal healing process.
